Business Startup
Getting Started
For most people actually launching a business startup is the most difficult step they will take. They’ve thought about it, dreamed about it and have a very good idea what they’d like to do in their own business…BUT…
No money
No ideas
FEAR, FEAR
What if it fails?
Wrong time
Need to wait
Young Children
All reasons NOT to act!
The Power of Positive Thinking
There are always lots of reasons NOT to do something. But to do a business startup you need to begin focusing on all the reasons that you CAN start your own business:
Success is possible...Freedom...Increased Security...Control your own destiny...Quit the 9-5 rat race...It’s creative...It’s rewarding...It’s challenging...I'll have passion for what I do!!!
These kind of thoughts will allow you to take the first step and actual do a business startup!
Most people never take the first step
This may sound obvious but I can’t tell how many people I know who’ve said they wanted to do a busiess startup their and NEVER do.
I have a friend who wants to be in the custom furniture business and another the cosmetic business, and I believe both of them could probably be fabulously successful. Are they actually going to do a business startup? Probably not; even though they could start those businesses very small and test the market before they really have to invest anything. So if you really want to start your own business I recommend you take the first step and START!
Brainstorm your first step
Everyone will have a different first step. Maybe that first step is doing some research or nailing down your business idea or investigating a franchise. But try to plan some time each day that you’ll spend researching or planning and you will find that you’ll begin to make progress.
Also, don’t let other people discourage you. No one ever thinks a new business startup idea will work. They’ll be skeptical and disbelieving until you actually launch your business and even then they’ll probably not be as supportive as you would hope. Don’t worry about it. Just continue to move forward and eventually they’ll understand!
Learn how to pull yourself up using a small business
Don’t know what business startup you want?
What if you not sure what kind of business you’d like to start? If that is the case, I would recommend a brainstorming session. You and someone close to you should brainstorm possible business ideas. What do you like to do? What are your strengths and how could they be turned into a business? If you close your eyes and throw caution to the wind, what would you like to be doing?
Try to find your passion. Passion is the key component of a successful business. Are you passionate about sports, children, education, God, business, computers, cooking, photography or teaching? What gets your creative juices flowing? What stirs you up? Any of these and many more can be turned into VERY successful businesses.
Focus on your passion!
Once you’ve defined what you’re passionate about, then begin to image what kind of business you could create within that interest area. Write down every idea that comes to your mind no matter how far fetched it seems.
Then take each idea and try to imagine how you might make that idea a reality. When Steve Jobs and Woz were in the garage in California tinkering with electronics who would have EVER believed they would create the personal computer and launch the largest tech revolution of the twentieth century?
I’m not saying you can create Apple Computer but I am saying given the right planning much more is possible then you might realize at this point. I guess I’m going to use a very trite expression. To define a business you need to “Dare to Dream’. There I said it.
Again it IS much more possible than you can imagine.
Starting with nothing
My father was working as a greeting card salesman for minimum wage in the 1960’s and dared to dream of having a chain of grocery stores. He had NO money, no education, five children under the age of fifteen and no other assets. Within two years he purchased his first store and within five years had five stores. No one would have thought that was possible, but it was. It wasn’t perfect and it wasn’t easy, but he still did it!
As tough as it gets!
Deciding what kind of business to create is probably the hardest decision you need to make, so don’t hurry. Take your time, but as I said at the top of the page START!
If you’d like someone to bounce ideas off of please email me your ideas and I’ll try to help you brainstorm business concepts. I’ll share them anonymously with others on the site if you’re comfortable with that.
